All about me

Why I want to be a teacher

I believe that as a teacher, I can influence the students to become leaders of tomorrow.  I think that students not only need someone to teach them the required material, but also how to become decent citizens. I feel like teaching is the best way to reach the students. I know that not all students come from a loving background and I would like to give them a safe environment where they feel like they can do anything. I would like to teach special education and eventually get my masters in special education and become a coach for other teachers.

Teaching Philosophy

I feel the best way for students to learn is through various activities. Students learn best through play. They get hands on experience and also can apply it to their lives. I also feel that I should teach to all types of learning styles. There are no “stupid” students. Every child just learns differently and might be gifted in other ways. I feel that if I have high expectations for my students, they will be able to learn even more than what they or others expected out of them. I believe every child deserves a chance in life, and I feel that teaching gives them the foundation to be anything they want to be.

 Job Experience

I have been babysitting since  I was fourteen, my first babysitting job being a Nanny.  I worked at Pier 1 Imports my Senior year of high school where we set up displays, answered costumer’s questions/ help pick out home accessories, and be a cashier. I then was a “cowboy caller” when I attended Hardin-Simmons. We called alumni and updated information. The next year and until I graduated Hardin-Simmons I worked at an after school program, where I was the head teacher. We would provide the kids snacks and take them to various activities including bowling, arcade, laser tag and mini-golf.

 Volunteer Experience

· I have served in ABC soup kitchen in downtown Austin. · I have led backyard bible clubs in local communities.· I have helped clean people’s houses who were too sick to do so themselves. · I have been on several mission trips within the United States where we have roofed, painted, and fix siding of houses. · I have also been to Ghana, Africa twice. The first time we helped build huts, played with the students, showed videos within the cities. The second time, I helped with a kindergarten class in the mornings and in the afternoons I tutored struggling students as well as led recreation.
